What You Likely Heard

I am an internet business coach. I work all day long with people who have bought a dream to create an internet business using dropshippers. Perhaps you are currently working on building a website or have learned how to sell your stuff on ebay and now would like to hook up with some dropshippers. The salesman likely told you that finding dropshippers would be easy. If you are working with a coach, perhaps the salesman told you rhat your coach would tell you how to "hook up" with the dropshippers that they told you about. Boy do I love that! They were likely very careful in the words that they used. You likely inferred from that that your coach would have a "list" of dropshippers. That is what you heard anyways. That just burns me as a coach, because it is never easy for someone to swallow that I do not have a "magic" list of dropshippers, but rather I can teach them how to find suppliers. Some of these suppliers may dropship, some may not. That is not what new people to internet business want to hear.

Reality of Dropshippers

The reality of dropshipping is that yes, it can be done. It will not be as easy as it was likely painted to you in the sales pitch. The salesman likely never brought up the fact that you cannot just search "dropshippers" in a search engine and expect to find legitimate suppliers who will dropship. The people that you find in a search like that typically are middlemen. A tell tell sign of that fact will be if they charge you a monthly fee. No legit product source will charge you a monthly fee. They may have a set up fee, but that is usually a one time fee that can be applied to your first order.

Some helpful tips to finding a legit dropshipper for you:

  • Do not search on the internet with phrases that include "dropshipper"
  • Find the manufacturer info by looking on the product itself at the local store and use that then find their contact info
  • look in thomasnet to find manufacturer contact info

  • Call the manufacturer and ask them for the contact info of the wholesale suppliers that they sell to
  • Talk with potential suppliers on the phone rather than sending email. You can resolve concerns on the phone and may never know of the concerns when you send email
  • Use product sourcing companies such as World Wide Brands to save yourself a lot of time.
